Where is breast augmentation surgery performed?

Each breast enlargement surgery performed by Dr Benjamin Norris is done in fully accredited facilities with a qualified anaesthetist present at all times. This is for your safety and to ensure optimum quality of care throughout the procedure and the immediate postoperative period.

Which are better: saline or silicone implants?

Both saline and silicone implants have advantages and disadvantages, and both types are potentially able to deliver exceptional, natural-looking results. While saline implants are an excellent choice, new cohesive silicone gel implants are thought to feel more natural. Dr Norris can make recommendations based on your specific goals and body type; however, ultimately it is your choice as to which type of implant you wish to use for your breast enlargement.

Is it better to place the implant on top of or beneath the muscle?

Implant placement depends on various factors, including the type of implant used and the amount of fat and breast tissue present on your body. Saline implants are usually placed beneath the chest muscle since they have a tendency to wrinkle. In addition, if you are very skinny or have very little breast tissue, placing the implant underneath the muscle tissue can deliver a more natural look. In contrast, if your breast size has changed because of breastfeeding, placing implants on top of the muscle and beneath the breast tissue can help fill out the breast area. During your consultation, Dr Norris can help you determine where your implants should be placed.

Where are the incisions made for breast augmentation?

Breast augmentation incisions can be made in one of three areas: in the crease beneath the breast, around the nipple and areola, or in the armpit. Each type of incision has its advantages and disadvantages. Not all patients are suitable for each type of incision. The most common incision site is in the crease beneath the breast. This incision, as well as the incision around the nipple and areola, is easily concealed by your swim costume.

Can I use fat from other areas of my body to augment my breasts?

Unfortunately, there is no reliable method to transfer fat from other areas of your body to your breasts. Although some doctors have claimed throughout the years that this is possible, these claims are false, and these doctors will not subject their patients to the scrutiny of more mainstream surgeons. Suctioning fat out of your thighs or stomach and replanting it into the breasts does not work because the fat in the breasts have a poor blood supply. Therefore, implanted fat cannot establish a new blood supply and, as a result, it just fades away.

One of my breasts is smaller than the other one. Can this be fixed through breast augmentation surgery?

Breast asymmetry is a very common problem among women that can be fixed through breast enlargement using one implant. It is also possible to decrease the size of the bigger breast to make it more symmetrical to the smaller breast through breast reduction surgery. Sometimes, a combination of both of these procedures is necessary to achieve desired results. Dr Norris can determine which operation is most suited to your specific needs and goals.

When can I go back to the gym after breast augmentation?

Your recovery time after breast augmentation depends on whether your implants are placed above or below the chest muscle. Patients who have implants placed above the muscle usually require minimal downtime and should be able to return to the gym and their normal daily activities in two weeks. However, if the implants are placed beneath the muscle, the muscle becomes stressed and can become quite tender with strenuous activity. These patients may require at least one month to fully recover from surgery and return to their normal activities.

Is there an increase in breast cancer after enlargement surgery?

There is no evidence that breast implants have an influence on the risk for developing breast cancer.

Will I lose any feeling in my breasts after surgery?

It is possible to lose feeling of the breasts after breast enlargement. However, this is highly unlikely.

Can I still breastfeed after surgery?

You can still breastfeed after your operation. Breast enlargement surgery does not interfere with your ability to breastfeed.
